The N.C. Highway 16 bridge reopened on Tuesday, according to Alexander County Sheriff Chad Pennell.
Many roads remain closed across western North Carolina and the greater Hickory area. There may be more road closures than listed on DriveNC.gov. DriveNC.gov is run by the N.C. Department of Transportation.
N.C. Highway 16 has been closed since 5:47 p.m. on Friday. The closing was due to the Oxford Dam having all gates open at the bridge, according to DriveNC.gov.
The bridge detour suggests using the N.C. Highway 127 bridge between Catawba and Alexander counties. The Alexander County detour for N.C. Highway 16 is Wayside Church Road to Friendship Church Road to Church Road to Teague Town Road to N.C. Highway 127. The Catawba County detour is St. Peters Church Road to Springs Road NE to Kool Park Road NE/Cloninger Mill Road then to N.C. Highway 127, according to DriveNC.gov.

Catawba County
As of 9 a.m. on Monday, 16,455 of 82,361 customers were still without power in Catawba County, according to PowerOutage.us.
Many closed roads in Catawba County are expected to remain closed until Oct. 10, according to DriveNC.gov.
Interstate 40 is closed from Interstate 77 in Iredell County to Old Fort Mountain in McDowell County, according to DriveNC.gov. Interstate 40 is open to local traffic. Drivers are asked to avoid driving west on Interstate 40 to avoid back-up in Black Mountain, Catawba County Strategic Operations & Communications Director Amy McCauley said on Friday.
Catawba Valley Boulevard SE near South Center Street in Brookford is closed due to downed trees and powerlines. The road is expected to remain closed until 3 p.m. on Oct. 10 and will have a high impact on traffic in the area, according to DriveNC.gov.
N.C. Highway 127 in Hickory is closed near First Avenue SE due to downed trees, powerlines and dead traffic signal lights. The road is expected to have a high impact on traffic. The road will be closed through Oct. 10, according to DriveNC.gov.
Alexander County
N.C. Highway 16 is one of 10 roads still closed in Alexander County, according to DriveNC.gov.
As of 9 a.m. on Monday, 3,160 of 19,481 homes were still without power in Alexander County, according to PowerOutages.us.
McDowell County
More than 75% of McDowell County is without power as of 11:30 a.m. on Monday. Out of 33,211 customers, 22,806 are still without power, according to PowerOutage.gov.
DriveNC.gov only showed one road closed in McDowell County aside from Interstate 40. McDowell County is in the red zone on the DriveNC.gov map. This means people should not travel to this area.
Interstate 40 is closed between Old Fort and Black Mountain due to a mudslide.
Harmony Grove Road near Sherwood Road is blocked by a downed tree. The road is expected to be closed until around noon on Oct. 10, according to DriveNC.gov.
Caldwell County
Nearly 50% of Caldwell County remains without power on Monday morning. Out of 42,227 customers, 20,411 remain without power, according to PowerOutage.us.
DriveNC.gov lists three Caldwell County roads closed. The western half of Caldwell County is in the red zone on the DriveNC.gov map.
Burke County
More than half of Burke County was still without power as of Monday morning. Out of 43,245, 27,738 customers were without power, according to PowerOutage.us.
Aside from Interstate 40, DriveNC.gov only listed Fish Hatchery Road near Kayga Road as closed. The road is impassable and has a high impact on traffic. Fish Hatchery Road will be closed until at least Oct. 10.

Iredell County
Less than 500 customers in Iredell County were still without power on Monday, according to PowerOutage.us.
DriveNC.gov lists three Iredell County roads closed with low to medium traffic impact, aside from Interstate 40.
